Is the August 15 deadline really firm? First of all, please note that there is a different deadline for youth (but if YOU have youth going, YOU still need to register by August 15). In order to be good stewards of our church funds, August 15 really is the FINAL date to register to be certain of your spot. The reason we were able to extend the deadline is because Montreat Conference center graciously extended the date that we need to report to them how many people we are bringing, without forfeiting any deposit we make. Montreat is not going to be able to extend the deadline again. After that date, they need to open up rooms that we don’t use, if any, to other people. If we were to reserve all the rooms and then not fill them, we’d be out a pretty penny. After August 15, people who sign up for the retreat will go on a waiting list. So, this isn’t something you want to wait until close to the retreat to think about. Pray it up, and then if God says “go,” sign up today!
What’s up with the cost, and does the church supplement? Yes, it does cost some money to go. The prices reflect the prices that the conference center charges for building, grounds, food, etc. Actually, the conference center’s fees have increased, but our fees have not. And yes, we do supplement the cost in our annual church budget by quite a sum, and usually end up in the red by quite a sum of money as well. Thankfully, we have people who graciously give to the scholarship fund and it’s worked out every year. God provides! If you need a scholarship, don’t hesitate to contact Amy (it’s all confidential). This year, one of the ways we are trying to be better stewards of our funds – yours and ours – is to hold to the August 15 deadline. The discipleship committee will also be researching (just research right now, mind you) different ways and places to do all-church events, such as this retreat, in the coming years that may be more cost friendly. The part of the equation that’s most important: Being on retreat with the Family of God is priceless!
What happened to the family maximum? In the past there was a maximum family payment on the registration. We took this off of the brochure this year to see what our real costs and income are. If you need the family max, it’s available. We will scholarship the rest of the funds. But, if you are able to pay the whole registration, that would make more scholarship funds available for those that are in need at this time in their life.
Who: Anyone who wants to refuel by getting away for the weekend, reconnect with God and others, and retreat in the mountains of beautiful Western North Carolina. What: A two night retreat at Montreat conference center where we'll learn Biblical teaching, hear stories of what God is doing in our congregation, and get to know one another better! When: Friday, September 24th through Sunday, September 26th, 2010 Where: Montreat, NC. Check out their web site! Why: We are committed to growing in our faith with God and others. One way we can do that is through intentionally getting away together to engage in community that is centered on Christ. This is the 23rd year we've been going away for the weekend as a church, and many members look forward to this time every year. If you plan to ride in the bus/vans to Montreat, with the other youth, have your parents indicate so on the registration form. Cost is $35, non-refundable, and payable at registration. If you are going without your parents, you need to register on same registration form. The entire retreat fee must be paid by Sept 12 deadline and is non-refundable as of this date.
