Yes, Jesus! I believe you are my Savior and Lord! Now what…..?
Our joy and call as disciples are to live our lives growing into fully devoted followers of Jesus. But how exactly do we understand that joy and call - What is a disciple, and how do we grow in spiritual maturity?
What is a growing disciple?
A maturing disciple is a person whom God has redeemed and given a new life in Jesus through faith, who continues to grow in living faith through the Holy Spirit across a lifetime, becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Below are just a few of the ways we do this at 1st Presbyterian Church

How do we grow in spiritual maturity? By participating with God!
We gratefully acknowledge that growing as disciples is not something that God asks us to do on our own. God is the one who works in us through the Holy Spirit, transforming us into Christ’s image. God does the growing in our lives, but he asks us to participate in the growth. Though there are many ways to participate, there are five “practices of discipleship” that we hope you will engage in as God leads. All our programs for adults seek to engage adults in one of these five practices.
1. Corporate Worship - Growing disciples will participate regularly in Sunday morning worship and will embrace membership @ FPC. (Acts 2:42-47)
2. Personal Devotion - Growing disciples will be engaged in personal worship and devotion including prayer, reading Scripture, giving through stewardship of financial resources, and other spiritual disciplines. (Matthew 22:37-40)
3. Intentional Community; “small groups” - Growing disciples will be involved in intentional community. Though intentional community can happen various ways, we will choose to foster it in small groups. Intentional Community is the “forging point” of discipleship where we grow in relationship with God, grow in relationship with each other, and help each other grow in our relationships with God. (Genesis 1:26-27; Hebrews 10:24-25; Mark 2:1-5)
4. Bible Study - either within or in addition to small groups. Growing disciples will be involved in some study of the Bible or biblical principle. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
5. Service / Mission - Growing disciples will be involved in an area of service, either inside or outside of the church. (Matthew 20:25-28)
